How I Got Into Software Engineering

Career GrowthSelf-LearningPersistence

I never imagined I would become a software engineer. During my higher secondary education, engineering wasn't even something I had considered. But life had other plans. I ended up joining a private engineering college in Kerala, not out of passion, but due to circumstances.

College life wasn't easy. It came with its own set of challenges, both academically and personally. That period was full of struggles and unfamiliar experiences. By the time I completed my degree, I realized something hard to admit: I wasn't skilled, and I didn't even know how to write a simple piece of code.

Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

While everything around me slowed down, I decided it was time to start learning on my own. I turned to online resources, watched tutorials, built small projects, and tried to understand the basics. The process was frustrating. I failed many times, applied to jobs, and got rejected again and again. There were moments when I seriously doubted myself.

But I kept going.

Eventually, all the effort started to pay off. After months of learning and trying, I finally received my first offer letter. That moment meant everything. It was a result of persistence, self-belief, and showing up even when I felt like giving up.

What I Learned

You don't need to have it all figured out from the start. It's okay if you begin late or feel lost in the beginning. What really matters is staying consistent, learning at your own pace, and pushing through the tough times.

Today, I'm continuing my journey in software engineering with a mindset shaped by those early struggles. And I know this is just the beginning.
